Sending flowers to Kristiansand

Kristiansand, with around 115,000 inhabitants, is the major city of Sørlandet, Norway's southern coast. Founded in 1641 by Christian IV, it has kept the grid plan the king laid down: the centre, known as Kvadraturen, is a regular chequerboard of streets that is easy to navigate. It is the sunniest city in Norway, and its population swells in summer with the holiday homes along the coast.

Delivery districts

Kvadraturen holds the shops, the offices and a share of the housing. Just north of it, Posebyen preserves a cluster of low wooden houses from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that survived the fires. Around them, Lund is home to the university, Grim and Eg spread to the north-west, Vågsbygd to the west, Søm and Randesund to the east. The municipality merged with Søgne and Songdalen in 2020: those areas are now administratively part of Kristiansand but remain fifteen to twenty kilometres from the centre, and not every provider puts them in the same delivery zone.

A city people pass through

Kristiansand is the country's sea gateway from Denmark, with regular sailings to Hirtshals. Dyreparken, the wildlife park to the north-east, is one of the most visited attractions in Norway and draws families from across the country all summer. That strong seasonality shows in the florists' workload: June to August are busy months, and an order for a birthday or a wedding in high season is best placed several days ahead.

Hospital and funerals

Sørlandet sykehus Kristiansand, in the Eg district, is the reference hospital for the whole of Agder. As elsewhere, give the ward and the room number. For condolences, Norwegian custom favours a spray or a wreath ordered from a local florist, who knows the service times and delivers directly to the place of worship — a postal shipment from abroad offers no such guarantee of punctuality.

Frequently asked questions

Are Søgne and Songdalen covered?

They have been part of Kristiansand municipality since 2020 but keep their own postal codes. Enter the recipient's exact postal code: that, rather than the municipality name, is what determines coverage and any surcharge.

Is there a season to avoid?

No season is impossible, but the weeks of July are the tightest, with the tourist influx and florists' own holidays. If the date matters, order early and choose a site that confirms delivery by email.

Can you deliver to the houses in Posebyen?

Yes. The quarter is residential and its streets are accessible. As with all old wooden quarters, the recipient's phone number makes hand delivery easier.

Do the rates differ from Oslo?

Not with the national networks: the prices and fees in the comparison table apply across Norway. Only distance surcharges for the outlying parts of the municipality may be added.
